After seeing the horrific images of local Ukrainian refugees having to flee their everyday lives, I have decided to travel to Poland to volunteer my assistance in whatever way possible at the border with Ukraine.

I have done some research and the refugees require basic food and drinks, sleeping bags and basic medication. Any monies donated will be spent in my effort to assist.

I would be grateful for any help/assistance/advice/ money you can donate. All receipts will be kept for evidence, and a separate bank account is used for donations.

I am traveling to Poland on 19th March 2022.

An Aberdeen man has launched a fundraiser as he prepares to travel to Poland on a mission to support Ukrainian refugees fleeing the war with Russia.

Peter will fly to the country on March 19. There, he plans to head to the border with Ukraine to provide humanitarian aid to people fleeing the conflict, which has claimed thousands of lives.

The 27-year-old has a £1,000 target for the appeal he launched on the JustGiving platform. He is also calling for people to donate items like masks and beanie hats.

Peter said viewing the horror scenes from Ukraine on TV has driven him to make a difference.

"Being born in a democratic society, we take for granted that we've got rights... and (Ukraine) has had that until two weeks ago.

"Due to the strong forces of Russia, people need to stand up to these people and support (Ukrainians) immediately, because if that's not going to be the case, potentially Russia's going to think they can just do whatever they want, when they want.

"I was thinking that the help would come from governments across the world... in terms of our own UK government I think there's definitely not been enough (help).

"People are fleeing for their lives... I want to help those innocent civilians... people like me going over and helping could make the process a little bit less daunting.

"I just want to go there, offer my English to help break the language barrier and if I can take a couple of cases of hats and gloves over because I know the temperatures have been down at about.

"People are obviously coming over the border with nothing.... if people donate to (my crowdfunder), I could buy and give out basic food, water and things like that."
