Hello. My name is Phil Prior. I live in Axbridge,Somerset England, in my view,the most beautiful town in England.
Ten years ago i had a accident suffering life changing injuries,There was constant pain, eventually a wheelchair.They were dark-often suicidal-days.
But that was then.
In June last year i took the difficult,irreversible decision to have half my leg amputated.
Traumatic-but the best decision i have ever made in my life.A number of remarkable things happened. The pain disapeared and after almost a decade,I learnt how to sleep again.
Perhaps,even more important,i realised just how many friends i had in the community. People whose good health i had resented,showered me with cards,grapes,and even pineapple chunks,hospital visits and support.I was overwhelmed by their kindness,affection-and love.Then something else happened. I became part owner in a racehorse called Crooks peak.After years of darkness i had daylight-hope and ambition. I agreed to have a prosthetic leg and promised myself that one day i would walk the horse into the winner's enclosure.
I did that in November at Cheltenham, just six months after my Operation. Every step was painful,Glorious and wonderful.
So,now it's time for me to give something back.
On 3rd June i plan a charity walk around cheddar reservoir-just a couple miles for most,more like 200 for me.It will be for 2 causes: - The 2020 Axbridge pageant. and The Injured jockeys Fund Both very close to my heart. The former is in celebration of those who help you through the darkest days-Family,friends,and your community.The latter close to my heart I can relate to those who get hurt-the pain,fear,disability and the feeling of hopelessness.
So please come on the 3rd of June at the Axbridge entrance of the Reservoir at 11.am and afterwards to The Lamb in Axbridge for refreshments and a raffle
There is a silent Disco on Friday the 1st of June at The Lamb
Starting 8.00am in aid of the same Charities
