Story
4 Employees of Rapid Design Manufacturing Solutions Ltd, Oldham, (rapidpartsuk.com/contact-cus/index.htm ) . Stephen Scoltock, Diego San Martin, Mark Fletcher & Robert Dowsett, are putting their bodies on the line by entering the renowned Tough Mudder course in order to raise funds for my daughter Samantha #save Samantha.
This is the story so far:
Samantha suffers from a rare health condition and requires further life saving surgery which is unavailable in the UK. at present the total amount which is required is £100000
Samantha is a 31 year old single mother of 2, who owned her own Psychotherapist company in Manchester until she became too ill to continue working at the start of 2017. In December of 2016 after a lifetime of misdiagnosis's she discovered that her brain & spinal cord were being crushed under the weight of her skull. Samantha had been diagnosed with Elhers Danlos Syndrome (EDS) this is a genetic condition which affects the collagen in the body. Collagen is the glue which holds our body together and affects every major organ in the body, causing constant pain, multiple daily dislocations, Cardiac problems and many other serious issues. Samantha's ligaments are too weak to support her head and so the spinal column is collapsing under the strain.
In June of 2017 Samantha travelled to Washington DC where she underwent surgery to have her cervical spine fused, this involved fitting hardware into the spinal structure of her neck and intertwining ligament tape between the joints, within 2 months of this operation it was found that further surgery was required , so again Samantha underwent the knife of the skilled surgeon. unfortunately, it has now become apparent that the surgery has not had the full desired effect, the ligament is allowing too much movement causing the scaffolding and the bone grafting to become loose, resulting in many of her symptons returning. Samantha has had further upright scans in Barcelona, which have highlighted the need to have the surgery re worked, this time she will have to have full fusion eliminating any movement in her neck. It is also thought that further surgery will need to follow at a later date for full fusion of the spinal column, although this will be held off for as long as possible. None of this surgery is available in the UK and no assistance with covering the costs of this expensive treatment.
Samantha's main aim is to be able to return to work helping others as she initially set out to do, she wants to enjoy her 2 young children and be the mummy they so deserve. with your help and support we hope to make this possible.
