Story
It has almost been 6 months since I last saw my friends and family. I set off on the trip of a lifetime in January this year expecting the next 12+ months to be some of the best in my life. It is true that for 4 months my life was filled with many things to be grateful for.
In mid-May I suffered a life altering injury which has left me in a broken state mentally and physically. After falling from a height of approximately 4 metres I suffered severe trauma to my back and heels. When I was rushed into emergency surgery I was told that I had suffered a compression fracture of the L1 vertebrae along with comminuted fractures in both heels. To add insult to injury my left heel was also an open wound with bone protruding from my skin.
Right now it is unclear what kind of recovery is possible but I have been blessed to have two surgeries performed by a well respected Dr. in Thailand who has done a fantastic job of putting me back together.
*Apologies for the graphic images*
Unknown to most people I have been suffering a great mental turmoil during this whole process. Prior to travelling I had purchased insurance that was supposed to protect me against instances like this. Unfortunately after a long and strenuous investigation the insurance cannot cover me for my final medical bill, nor will they help me to return home.
I write to you now in desperation for funding so that I may negotiate my release from this hospital and return home to my family where I can continue my recovery with my loved ones around to support me.
Please I ask that if you are unable to support me with a donation, can you share my story with your friends, family and work colleagues.
I hope that one day I can show my appreciation to all those who have kept my head above water during this time and I want every single person who has read this to please be aware of the risks when purchasing travel insurance. These companies turn over enormous profits yearly, billions and growing year on year. When purchasing insurance please read your policy from top to bottom and make it a priority. I wouldn't wish this experience on anyone.
Please help me return home.
Thank you.

2 years agoHi Everyone I think it’s about time I updated this page. To start, I wanted to express how grateful I am for being able return home to England. This has been one heck of an emotional ride. The people involved in this story, whether you donated, messaged or called, are all heroes. Without everyone of you and without the talented Dr’s and staff at Samitivej, I can’t say for sure that this would've ended quite the same. Thanks to you, I have the chance to return to a life that is familiar to the one I had before my accident. 💚

2 years agoDuring the first week of injury I had to undergo a second surgery. I needed approval from my insurance before this went ahead. The insurance told me they sent a guarantee of payment to the hospital and said the surgery could go ahead. This surgery cost approximately £13,800. I thought and I was told that the guarantee of payment would stand. Now I have just received a follow up email saying that I am now legally obliged to payback my insurance company for the full amount. Once again increasing my medical bills to £36,000. Happy Monday.

2 years agoA huge day! After much negotiation I have signed the final contact at the hospital. The total to pay has now been reduced. I will be allowed to leave Thailand once this is cleared. After much discussion the hospital have also agreed to release me from the hospital and allow me to stay at a friends apartment in Bangkok. It’s not ideal, as there isn’t much wheelchair access in the room but we are going to make it work for now. This means my hospital bill is now final and will not climb anymore. One last push.
