Most of you that know me will know that I have a little sausage dog called teddy who is my absolute world , he suffers from a rare condition called cystinuria which is a genetic defect in which his kidney isnt able to process a basic amino acid called cystine . This means the cystine in his urine forms into stones/ crystals which causes blockages in his urethra and makes him unable to urinate properly , due to this he has already been catheterised numerous times and has had his bladder flushed . To make things more serious he also has another crystal present in his bladdder called struvite which is quite common , but to have both forming in one bladder is an extremely hard thing to deal with . One of the crystals are created in an alkaline urine and the other in an acidic urine so that means I have to test his urine on a daily basis and feed him a a diet which gives him A balanced ph of 7 . There is no food available at the moment which caters for his problem so when his readings aren't correct it can cause teddy great pain and is very problematic . It is a life threatening condition and most often requires surgery , whether it be a cystostomy or urethrostomy in the near future . Being a sensible pet owner I have always had insurance for teddy however on this occasion due to a miscommunication with Tesco insurance , they have refused to cover his illness which is life long a condition . I have already paid over £1000 this year for all his vet treatments and I am struggling and worrying about how to raise the money I will need for further treatment .
