Story
15 year old whiz kid Henry Atkins, announced in the PLYMOUTH DEVILS side for the 2017 season, wants to help his club raise funds for the new air fence they are having to buy to stage speedway next season.
The original one was vandalised near the end of last season so the new promotion coming in have to invest in a new one and they don’t come cheap! Henry offered at the Fans Forum to come with a fund raising idea and the next morning he had it all planned out and called promoter Laurence Rogers with his idea.
Henry is going to bike ride from his home in Exeter to Plymouth , a distance of approximately 46 miles, with a support vehicle behind him . He wants fans and businesses to sponsor him either per mile or a set amount and hopes he can raise a good sum towards his club’s outlay for the air fence.
Henry said, “ I really want to do my bit for my new club. They are putting so much into their efforts to make the club strong having saved it from extinction. I know I can do this and you never know some of my team mates might want to join me !! I think this will capture the imagination of speedway fans throughout the country who might want to back me in my efforts. We are looking at doing it in February so we will have some time to get sponsorship in.”
Mark Phillips, co-promoter at Plymouth is amazed at what his young rider wants to do, “ What a lad. He is really into what we are aiming to do with the club and this idea is fantastic. We have a big outlay for the new air fence and every penny helps. I am sure the fans will back his efforts and we will announce full details in due course of how they can pledge and give their support .”
