In June of last year I took on beautiful little Ella as a companion for Rosie. I didn’t know just how much of an impact she would have on me, her big “sister” and most of the people who have met my little warrior. When I took Ella on there was no indication that she had such serious health problems, I knew she was going for slaughter, and that she had suffered many years of abuse and neglect, but not the extent of my little girls problems. When I had her first veterinary appointment it became apparent that there were issues. In her 13 years of life; no one had ever had her teeth looked at. The vet told me they were the worst teeth she had ever seen, she was in a lot of pain, and they were surprised she had survived the winter without being able to eat. She was burdened with parasites, a horrific tape worm infestation, ear mites, sweet itch and blood tests showed she also had Cushings disease. These diagnoses meant that I would be unable to insure her. In recent weeks I have seen a decline in her health, and the vet has suggested it is likely she has ulcers, and liver damage from the decade of neglect.

Ella came to me so traumatised she didn’t even want to be touched, although she is still a work in progress, she has blossomed and she is the most loving, gentle little pony. A rough estimate of investigative work and treatment for her is coming in at over £1500 and that’s without on going medications and treatment. I could never have foreseen that she would have this level of problems, nor that I would have had the health problems I have had over the past year which has left me in a poor financial situation. Ella has been through so much and has carried on fighting, I don’t want to give up on her as she has the potential to live a happy and fulfilling life. Ella has been let down, and is only in this state because of the years of neglect by humans, she deserves to have the life and love every animal should be given. Even if you can only spare a few pounds, it will help me to give Ella the best chance. She isnt ready to go to the meat man, and i cant give up on her!
