    Story

A Commonwealth-born veteran, who served for more than a decade in the British army including tours of Afghanistan and Iraq, has been told he must pay more than £27,000 for NHS hospital bills after an emergency operation to remove a brain tumour.Hospital staff have classified Taitusi Ratucaucau, 49, as an overseas patient, and therefore ineligible for free NHS care. He joined the British army in 2001 and has been continuously in the UK since being discharged from the military in 2011, living here with his wife and three daughters, and paying tax and national insurance.

Dear all, Thanks once again to all of you who dug deep to help Taitusi pay for life saving treatment. After serving In the British armed forces for a decade, it’s crazy that Tai and his fellow veterans are having to fight again... this time for the right to live here legally. To support their legal fees, a page has been set up (link below). I feel bad to ask again but these are desperate times for these brave men, so if you can, please visit it and donate if you can. https://www.crowdjustice.com/case/help-the-commonwealth-veterans/

Today I was so blessed to witness Taitusi reunited with his 3 daughters after his successful brain surgery. They haven’t seen each other since December when he was first diagnosed. A lot of tears were shed. Even the ITV news crew in attendance couldn’t help shed a tear. Not having a debt of nearly £30K hanging over them has massively lightened the families load and brightened up their week, year, and lives. Thank you for making this beautiful moment possible .
