We are a group of 5 mums and 10 children, some with mental heath issues who have been working with Cambridge Sustainable Food and North Cambridge Community Partnership to run cookery sessions. We live in the Kings Hedges and Arbury area and want to make a difference to our local community.

It would have been impossible to imagine two years ago when we first started cooking together that we would be running a group by ourselves. Over the past two years, working with the Thyme to Cook project run by Cambridge Sustainable Food, we have learnt to cook and have been working towards running our own group. We now want to put that into practice. We have been given the use of a local community centre and the kitchen for free, all we need now is some play equipment for the children and some way of buying ingredients. At present we have 10 children between us.

The sessions will run once a week where we will split into three groups- one to look after the children, one to cook and one to plan. Our focus will be on healthy, nutritious food on a budget. Once we have cooked, we will all eat together and any leftovers can be taken home to provide a family meal for the next day. We believe that helping other families like ours will mean less isolation and an opportunity to share our stories and offer support to other families.

We are asking for this funding so we can get up and running in Sept. We will then be working towards finding money to ensure the sessions can continue and others can join us.
