Weʼve raised £2,000 to Support the Family counselling Trust who help local teenagers with mental health difficulties who need counselling but can't afford it.

Funded on Monday, 26th December 2016

    Story

I intend to swim in an unheated swimming pond at least twice a week for a year. The endeavour started in August 2016 and I will continue swimming until August 2017. I am documenting my swims on facebook. My aim is to raise money to improve teenage mental health through supported counselling. As a science teacher and Pastoral Head with nearly 23 years' experience of classroom teaching, I am fully (and tragically) aware of the increase in mental health problems among teenagers in Wiltshire (and the UK in general) . I sincerely hope that by supporting cheaper counselling for families and individuals I can make a difference and give young people a chance of happiness in today's complicated society..

Can I just say a big THANK YOU to everyone who has encouraged me so far, and has kindly donated just over £2000 for the Family Counselling Trust. I will be continuing to swim for the next 8 months, and will be keeping a record of my watery progress on my facebook page "Swimming for Teenage Mental Health". If anyone would like to donate to this cause there is now a direct link to the Family Counselling Trust website which I will attach here: http://www.familycounsellingtrust.org/donation.html Thanks again for all the encouragement. xx

Week 20 Swim on Thursday 22 December. The water was only 5 Degrees C but felt fine – I think because I was wearing a wetsuit and wasn’t tired or hungry. I believe this is the last swim I’ll record on the Crowdfunding page before it expires on 27 December. But I will carry on recording all swims on facebook pages – my own Rachel Eveling page and a page called “Swimming for teenage mental health” Once the Family Counselling Trust have been recognised by Justgiving, or have activated ththeir direct donation link, I’ll share the information.

https://www.facebook.com/rachel.eveling.7 The link above leads to a video. Today's swim on 20th December was cold. There's a surprise I can hear you thinking. The water and air temperatures were both the same- about 5 deg C. However I was cheered by some jolly Christmas hand-warmers that the staff Secret Santa had given me. They came in very handy today!!!! HO HO Ho..... Well it wasn't as bad as some Christmas cracker jokes I have heard recently. My husband was also very supportive and made me a hot drink while I thawed out in the shower.

We are promoting a swim on 29 January when there will be live music as well as brunch to entertain all swimmers and their friends/supporters. Please support our ongoing efforts for the FCT. Attached is a link to my facebook page. Happy Christmas to you all!!
