Story
How it started
Reaching a milestone birthday last month I felt I wanted to challenge myself by walking 75 miles for my 75 years in 7.5 days. First was to find a suitable route not too far from home the Cumbria Way fitted the bill. Then I thought why not get sponsorship raising money for two causes in the village. When I suggested it to my walking mate Stella she wanted to join me so on Monday 10th May we will be on our way from Ulverston to Carlisle.
The Walkers
Stella and Rachel together we have walked more than 500 miles round Cumbria linking all 30 St Michael's churches in the Carlisle Diocese.
The Causes
St Michael's Church has been shut for most of the past year and has been unable to fundraise due to Covid restrictions but still requires maintenance.
Visit the church website at:
The Toppin Memorial Hall Is in need of refurbishment to bring it into the twenty first century before its Centenary in 2023.

All money raised will be divided equally between the two causes.

3 years agoWe have made it!!! We walked into Carlisle as the clock struck one this lunch time. A wonderful walk showing all the varying landscapes Cumbria has to offer. A very big thank you to all who have supported our causes and to anyone who would still like to we will keep this page open until the end of May. My personal thanks to Stella for wanting to share the journey it would have been lonely at times on my own and also to David for transporting us and his patience waiting for us when we have been running late! 3 years agoAn easier day today through lush green scenery after the browns of the last few days. We have left the fells and are on the way to the big city. The destructive river Caldew was our companion for most of the day along with hosts of wildflowers. Bluebells and wild Garlic all the way and a patch of orchids on the way to Sebergham. Remaining mostly dry viewing heavy rain showers over High Pike. Highlight was the arrival of two small offspring of the Jackson family to accompany us to Rose Bridge.
