There we were, sitting under the roof of the magnificent Royal Regency. Hugged up tight to family, lights turned to low and watching some of the best Muslim Comedians in town. A great night spending quality time with the extended family and having a laugh at the Comedy Show.

But then stark reality stared us all point blank in the face. The reality of the world outside our own bubble. Had our brothers and sisters not suffered enough? The ruined homes? The loss of loved ones? The ruined city? The loss of jobs and schools? The loss of their very own bubble! Through no fault of their own, the people of Syria have lost it all.

Hearts melted around the room, as we witnessed images of children and women at a loss. A widowed mother trying to keep her children warm from the freezing cold. What hope did they have? Who would give them hope? If I emptied my account would it give them hope? How would the loss of money affect me?

As we all pondered in thought, Ilyaas (aged 6) stood up on the chair and raised his hand! "£1000, over here!"

A few of us felt the gulp in our throats as we wondered how we would reach such a steep target. But that only lasted a moment! For we had hope! Hope in an ummah who always pull together. A pound here, ten there would all add up! And the best thing of all is Allaah will still reward each pound despite the amount. It was possible. So we signed up to do our bit.
