Hey guys!

This July 2018 I will be volunteering with World Challenge in the tiny kingdom of Swaziland, in the south of Africa. Because Swaziland is completely surrounded by South Africa, it is thought by many to be a relic of apartheid. Swaziland is in fact the very opposite. It is one of the last remaining true kingdoms in Africa. Swaziland is the smallest country in the southern hemisphere and is home to Africa's last absolute monarchy. Rich in culture and tradition, it has a fertile landscape and stunning areas of wilderness. During my two weeks there, I will be given the chance to immerse myself in the community, gaining an insight into a rich and beautiful new culture.

Swaziland has unfortunately been greatly affected by HIV and AIDs. As a result of the HIV epidemic, there are 180,000 AIDS orphans in Swaziland. My project with World Challenge will be to support the growing number of orphaned and vulnerable children in Swaziland by volunteering at schools and “Neighbourhood Care Points” (places where children can come together and access various services, receive care and support, a meal for the day and some form of education). My project will involve tasks such as painting, construction, refurbishment, teaching, tree planting, conservation and agricultural work, as well as fetching water, learning how to make maize meal, teaching English, organising sports matches and helping out around the village.

This will be my first trip away from my comfort zone, and I would really love to make a difference to the lives that I will be helping. My challenge is to raise £1300, and I therefore humbly ask you donate anything you can to help sponsor me for this cause.
