My family and I are currently fundraising for the PD Dialysis Unit at ARI; some are jumping out of aeroplanes and running marathons, but having just given birth I’ve opted to run a Facebook competition which will see one lucky person win an amazing beauty haul worth over £500...and this is why...

My Aunt was diagnosed with Kidney Disease 18 years ago, however at the end of last year she became very ill and she’s now in the end stages of renal failure. As a registered Nurse she’s used to looking after everyone around her; she never complains about the pain and tiredness and still tries to live life as normal, albeit hooked up to a PD Dialysis machine every night. Although she’s extremely ill, she remains very positive due to the wonderful support and care she receives from the PD Nurses and Consultants at ARI as we try to find a kidney donor.

The whole family has been tested but unfortunately none of us are a match; she’s blood group “O”. My Uncle, Cousin and Grandmother are in the process of being tested for a Pairing Scheme which is a long and complicated process, and the longer we wait the longer she stays on dialysis, which takes so much out of her.

We’re all aware of the extreme pressure the NHS is under, with weekly stories in the press regarding waiting lists and the lack of qualified staff available. However, the care she has received and the responsiveness of every medical professional we have encountered has been first class and for that we are incredibly grateful.

For that reason, all funds raised will go to the PD Dialysis unit at ARI to support their vital work.
