I am an S3 pupil from Webster’s High School in Kiriemuir. I need to raise nearly £4000 for a volunteering expedition to Ecuador in the summer of 2019. The purpose of this trip is to support struggling communities with a variety of different projects. These include planting trees, building new schools/community centres and installation of sanitation systems. In comparison with the UK, Ecuador is not nearly as highly developed and so the support that I and others on the trip are willing to offer is of great importance.

I feel really strongly about wanting to help others and feel this trip is a fantastic opportunity to do this. Having been in and out of care from the age of eight, I know how it feels to need help. My experiences have made me determined to dedicate as much time as I can to help those that need it. When I leave school, my ambition is to become a primary school teacher so that I can support and care for young people. This trip to Ecuador will not only allow me to care for the welfare of others, it will develop essential skills such as time-keeping, budgeting, communication, team-working and problem-solving. I hope these skills will make me a great teacher!
