    Story

The Red Lion has been closed since 14 th January 2015. Recently a community organisation, Red Lion Reloaded (RLR), was formed, currently going through the process of becoming a Community Benefit Society (CBS).

RLR organised a petition signed by over 300 villagers and supporters which was submitted to Newark and Sherwood District Council (NSDC) in support of retaining the pub as a viable business.

RLR has also submitted to NSDC an application to make the Red Lion an Asset of Community Value.

RLR aims to acquire the Red Lion as an asset to the village and to continue to operate it as a village pub.

A Red Lion Reloaded website – www.redlionreloaded.co.uk –to advertise and promote the group’s objectives is currently live. It will be regularly updated to inform of progress in respect of any of these objectives.

The aim of this fundraising page is to raise additional funds towards promoting our cause but also to help towards the purchase of the pub.

Although unlikely, should the purchase not proceed then in line with the ethos of the CBS any funds raised will be put back into the local community - a vote would be held by North Clifton, South Clifton and Spalford villages to ensure fair distribution.

Please be aware that this site is for DONATIONS only NOT pledges to purchase shares.

I live in Vancouver, Canada. I’ve spent some delightful moments in the Red Lion and would be at a loss if it is not there when I visit South Clifton.

South Clifton's Red Lion is a valuable community asset and well worth saving. It has great potential in addition to its traditional role as a village pub.

Go For IT! Had experience of District Council biased in favour of developers sold Pub cheap by Brewery after higher offers from community individuals turned down. We lost our pub but good luck to you!

The Red Lion Reloaded committee are committed proving to the planning committee that the pub CAN be run as a viable business by a tenant if we, as a community (through a Community Benefit Society) purchase the pub. We are passionate in our campaign but cannot do it alone.
