Refugees Welcome in Eynsham was formed in the wake of the Syrian refugee crisis after a number of Eynsham residents attended a rally in Oxford in September 2015 and realised there was a shared desire to help those fleeing conflict. We have grown by word of mouth to a loose network of about 80 people, with links to the three churches in Eynsham

Since then, the group’s aim has been to give welcome and support to refugees or asylum- seekers who come to live in West Oxfordshire, by working with and in Oxford through charity Asylum Welcome. There are six Syrian families living in Witney, supported by West Oxfordshire District Council (WODC) as part of the government scheme which has offered refugee status for 20,000 refugees across the country from the camps in and near Syria.
