    Story

Second half of the #Restore1stHampden project. £1067 has already been raised towards the £10k target so £8933 remaining.

Hampden Bowling Club sits on the 1st Hampden Park. It was home to Queens Park FC and the Scotland International Football Team from 1874 to 1884. Its one of the secrets of the sporting world and we are looking for everyone with an interest in our national heritage to be part of the restoration of arguably the most important football building in the world.

Queens Park FC celebrates its 150th birthday this year and has a fantastic history including playing its football at three Hampden parks. Very few people know that and the funding will go towards restoring the grounds, the rose garden and preserving the original pavilion for future generations to enjoy.

The story of Hampden Bowling Club is a fascinating story and has been chronicled through the Hampden Blog on a weekly basis since January 2016. The blog continues and you will be able to follow our story as it unfolds on what funding we get and the amazing things we will do with it.

The founders of Queens Park FC are regarded as pioneers of their time. Establishing one of the most famous football clubs in the world and also creating the modern game. The restoration of their original ground will continue that heritage through another sport and ensure that future generations know the legend of the first Hampden Park.

It has been said that Hampden Bowling Club is a site of national importance for sport and its pavilion is arguably the most important football building in the world. It is our mission to make sure that we restore it and preserve it to be enjoyed by future generations.

So here is the final update for this big challenge. It has been a real battle!. On the 1st October at the Great Scottish Run the final 10k was completed in a time of 49mins 57secs. Big thanks to David and Arild who got me on the road to squeeze under 50 minutes :-) 10 x 10ks in a bowling season complete; all under an hour and the final one busting the 50 minute barrier. Raised over £1800 in the process. All for a great cause and massive thanks to everyone that has donated and a special thanks to Maggie for being the best support crew ever!

This update is a wee bit delayed. On the 30th September I completed the 9th Run. An unscheduled change to the Trossachs 10k and finished in a time of 55m 39s. A lovely run in and around Aberfoyle. With that one completed there was only one to go and off to Great Scottish Run to finish the 10. It was incredibly apt that I got the Number 9 on the 9th 10k. That wasn't planned and a wee bit spooky.
