In May 2018 I am climbing the volcanic mountain Rinjani in Indonesia-to raise money for RCOG's global health projects.

I will be summiting 2 active volcanoes: Mt Batur (1,717m) and Mt Rinjani (3,726m) with 8hr-12 hrs of walking each day. I am doing it with a small group of other volunteers from the Royal college of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) and we are hoping to complete it in 3 days.

Most of you reading this are well aware I am an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and worldwide gender inequality is something I feel very passionately about. Improving maternal health and choice in family planning is at the core of improving this.

The RCOG does an amazing job at initiating projects in low resource, low socioeconomic areas including war zones. However for these vital projects to continue they need ongoing funds and volunteers to educate and train local staff. Current projects include training staff on management of obstetric emergencies to lower maternal mortality; reduce the formation of fistulas during child birth and reduce new born deaths and morbidity.

Without continued funds, these vital projects cannot continue.
