Story
Mission Rohingya. Over 800,000 Rohingya refugees have arrived in Cox's Bazar in Bangladesh since the latest bout of violence broke out on August 25th 2017 from Myanmar’s Rakhine State.
Three doctors from Leicester, UK are travelling to Cox's Bazar to offer voluntary medical care to these forgotten people as part of the charity, MedGlobal (a humanitarian charity, https://www.medglobal.org/). MedGlobal is a young global health organization that is working to provide much-needed medical services for the most disenfranchised populations around the world. .
Conditions in the camps are poor and there is a significant need for medical aid and humanitarian assistance. The current medical facility is stretched beyond capacity and urgently needs additional medical supplies/equipment to care for this refugee population.
So far, with the help of our local NGO partner Hope Foundation in Bangladesh, MedGlobal has been able to:
• Provide a Western standard of medical care for approximately 200-250 patients per day (more than half of which are children)
• Administer approximately $12,000 in lifesaving and disease-preventing medications each month
• Deliver urgent and primary care services including, IV hydration, nebulizer treatments, wound care, point of care testing and ultrasound diagnostics
• Distribute self-adjustable eyeglasses
• Collaborate with other local NGOs and government organizations in providing hospital level care, TB testing and referrals for orthopedic/surgical cases
• Recruit volunteer medical staff and humanitarians from the United States, Europe, and Australia
Currently there is a desperate need for a portable ECG machine which can be taken from one clinical room to the next and help the clinicians diagnose any cardiac abnormalities.
Dr Tariq Mahmood, Dr Moksudul Ali and Dr Saleel Majeed will be travelling to Cox's Bazar on January 11th 2018 Insha'Allah (God Willing) and hope to be able to deliver an ECG machine by hand as well provide medical aid at the clinics. We are looking to purchase a machine like this:
Any support you provide will enable clinicians to perform ECGs on Rohingya patients. ECGs are extremely useful for anyone who comes to the clinic with symptoms such as chest pain and can allow Doctors to make vital quick decisions such as diagnosing a suspected heart attack.
All funds donated will be spent on purchasing the ECG machine and any extra funds we receive will be given directly to help MedGlobal run the medical camps and provide vital medication and other medical equipment. Your donations will not go towards our own expenses (flights, accommodation) which we will be funding on our own.
We are thankful for your time in reading this page. If you are not able to donate at this time, we ask that you do not forget the Rohingya and keep them in your prayers.
