This summer I will be travelling to Tanzania with the help of UL Give (Charity set up by the students at The Graduate Entry Medical School Limerick). Whilst there I will be spending two weeks volunteering in St Francis Hospital, Ifakara.

St Francis is responsible for treating over 600,000 people, the hospital has a range of problems but currently they are working to solve:

1. Financing the training of doctors and specialists and upgrading of other personnel

2. Providing the hospital with affordable medicines and necessary equipment

3. Regular visits to the hospital by members of their association to support doctors and nurses and check equipment.

During this time I hope to gain some valuable experience in working in other healthcare systems. I hope to go someway towards repaying the unique opportunity they have given me.

My trip is self-funded and all of the money I raise will go to St Francis to further the development of the hospital.
