Story
Rosie was diagnosed with Tourettes at the beginning of 2016. Prior to this she had been a healthy, happy child. Tourettes has completely changed her life. Rosie has both vocal and motor tics and she is now suffering with severe anxiety. Rosie is currently in year 11 at school and is about to take some of her GCSE's. Unfortunately she spent 8 months of year 10 in hospital so she has had to drop quite a few subjects. Rosie has spasms in her hands and legs which means she is unable to walk and is unable to self propel a manual wheelchair. Rosie is dependent on an adult to push her wheelchair at all times. In the home Rosie moves around on her knees and she can walk a very short distance holding onto an adult for support. Rosie also has non epileptic convulsions which means she falls to the floor if she is not supported at that time.
To enable Rosie to gain some independence we would very much like to get her a motorized wheelchair that she can use without our help. However, due to practicalities such as transport we have been unable to find one that is in the motability scheme which will break down and go into the boot of our car. This means we have to purchase a custom built chair which is unfortunately out of our price range. Rosie is hoping to go to 6th Form college in September and we feel that it is important for her to gain confidence in using the chair over the summer so we would like to get it as soon as possible. We would be grateful if you can help by donating what you can no matter how small.
