In 2016 the Government proposed to reform the National Funding Formula (the means by which the government decide how much money to give councils for their school budgets). The reform is now in full swing and Hackney is facing some of the biggest cuts in the country.

It affects all aspects of school life, but when staff at Rushmore Primary School realised that there was no money allocated to buy books for the school library this year, they decided to do something about it.

In true Rushmore style, we're going to trek to the summit of Snowdon with a smile on a faces and the wind in our hair and we'll be carrying a message of resilience, determination and a love of reading.

We do this in the hope that we can raise some cash to put more books on the shelves of our library, more words in our pupil's vocabulary, more knowledge in their tremendous minds (and they really are tremendous) and more stories in all our hearts.

A team of staff will be driving to Wales on Friday 14th September (after school) then, when geared up in walking boots and pac-a-macs, will trek to the summit of Snowden on Saturday 15th September.
