    Story

    Work the world

    Hello! Welcome..

Please take the time to read my story and kindly donate

Who am I? Where am I going?

My name is Sabah Noreen and I am in my second year of paediatric nursing at Anglia Ruskin University. As part of my second year, we are given the opportunity to complete 4 weeks of placement outside of our placement zone.

I am going to be embarking one of the biggest and greatest journey of my life in 2018 by travelling to and from Tanzania for 4 weeks.

    Dar es salaam, Tanzania 2018

I wont be alone! This volunteering journey will be organised by the reputable Work the World (WtW) organisation, who have been sending medical students all over the world for a decade. They will organise my healthcare placement in the local hospitals, accommodation and the extra trip to spend a week living in the mountain village, with many additional opportunities available.

    How much will it cost?

The entire trip will cost around £4000. This includes: The WtW organised section (placement, accomodation, support, village experience), vaccinations, Visa, Insurance and plane tickets. Plus, some tourism activities.

All of the money raised will be spent directly on the placement and important extras (Visas, Vaccinations etc.). Any extra experience/tourism activities completed outside of placement hours. Such as a safari trip, will be funded out my own pocket.

    What will I be doing?

Three of my weeks I will be spending in local hospitals situated in Dar es Salaam, within which I will hopefully have the opportunity to volunteer in the paediatric department, Neonatal unit and Emergency department. My final week will be spent in a rural Aftican village at the foothills of the Viduna mountains. There I will learn about the local healing and way of life.

    Why am I doing this?

This experience is a giant leap outside of my comfort zone. It has been something I have always wanted to do but have never had the means or the motive to do so. When I was made aware of the opportunity to travel with WtW as part of my course, I knew that this is something I want to go ahead with either alone or with other members in my cohort.

    Greatest journey of my life

My trip to Africa would mean I get to experience practising Paediatric Nursing in a developing country and get first-hand experience of a very different clinical setting to what I am used to. I strongly believe this experience will strengthen my confidence, give me an insight of the health care procedures in a developing country and it will make a positive impact on my career and the care I provide personally.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story, your support is very much appreciated. .
