Iʼve raised £325 to support the clinical teams involved in the set up of the new Sachibondu Health Care facility in Zambia

    Story

I'm volunteering with the Global Emergency Medicine Research Group's Project Sachibondu in a remote region in North West Zambia. The aim of the project is to support the local care team in the development of sustainable emergency care https://www.globalemergencyresearch.com/projects/project-sachibondu/

Increasing patient numbers means the current clinic is becoming overwhelmed and buildings are not fit for purpose, so Sachibondu managers worked with Orkidstudio, an innovative humanitarian architectural organisation, to redesign a new facility. You can read more about the project build here https://orkidstudio.org/projects/sachibondu-hospital/17/

The new facility will open early next year and I'm lucky enough to be part of the first project team visit in January 2018. Funds raised will support project costs here and in Sachibondu.

I celebrated being 50 in 2017 by setting myself some challenges - my first marathon in May, a half marathon pb and trail run in September, the Kelpies supernova with Sophie in November, and ran 1000 km throughout the year :) I'm going to keep this going into 2018 with a marathon, sprint triathlon, running camp and an ultra marathon round Tiree but the most exciting challenge is definitely my trip to Sachibondu - only 3 sleeps to go! The funds we're raising will support site visits and costs of developing services in the new hospital...
