Why Skydive? I want to take action and raise awareness on the important issue of military occupation of schools in conflict zones. I picked a skydive because I’m scared of heights and flying. The dive will be a short time of intense fear and uncertainty, whereas children around the world in areas of conflict live in fear every day.

Why Protect Schools? Every child has the right to education in a safe environment. In areas of conflict, schools are attacked or occupied by armed forces. In areas of conflict, schools are often used as military bases, detention centres and torture chambers. Children can be forced to continue to go to school alongside armed forces, which endangers their education and can expose them to violence, sexual exploitation and recruitment into the conflict. Not to mention the students and teachers who are injured and killed when a school is attacked.

What will your contribution do? Your help will support Human Rights Watch as they seek to ensure the continuation of education during armed conflict. As part of the Safe Schools Declaration, Human Rights Watch also support the re-establishment of educational facilities and where possible, provide and facilitate international cooperation and assistance to programmes working to prevent or respond to attacks on education.
