Weʼve raised £312 to provide new resources for the DEKS Resource Library. The Library is wide ranging and all members of DEKS can borrow resources for free.

    Story

Ten percent (10%) of the population are dyslexic; 4% severely so. Dyslexia is identified as a disability as defined in the Equality Act 2010. Many of the dyslexic people across the UK, whether adults or children, are unable to fulfil their potential as a large percentage of the population still do not understand what dyslexia is, the difficulties which the condition presents and do not know how best to support them. Dyslexia is not an obvious difficulty; it is hidden. As a result, dyslexic people have to overcome numerous barriers to make a full contribution to society. (British Dyslexia Association)

DEKS, a registered charity, provides information and resources to people with dyslexia in East Kent through: access to a library of resources, expert 'talks', Drop-in sessions and a small bursary fund, with the aim of helping people who may not otherwise be able to find or afford this information and support.

Membership of DEKS is available to anyone for a very small yearly fee. The charity is run solely by volunteers and has limited regular funding.

At the Drop in sessions, free to anyone to attend, a team of specialist advisors guide parents, children, families and adults to find the information they need and support them to access further resources.

Therefore, the money raised here will be put to fantastic use and enable the committee to purchase updated resources for the Resource Library - for all DEKS members to borrow.

SMALL donations are welcome, £5 would be great, everything helps and it all adds up!

    Thank you.

I will be doing the Bruges Half Marathon Walk on 15th October 2017. Yes, it's a walk, but a long one (for me!) and the first ever event I've taken part in like this - thus a good opportunity to do it for a good cause: to raise money for the DEKS Resource Library.
