Will is an adventurous young man, full of life and with an infectious cheeky smile. He loves anything to do with speed and one of his favourite hobbies is zooming down the slopes at The Snow Centre, Hemel Hempstead, skiing with DSUK. He also loves the outdoor life, camping, forest ‘walking’ and exploring the coast, not to mention cars!

A traumatic birth left Will with severe disabilities. He is unable to walk, talk, feed or dress himself and relies on support from an adult at all times, he uses a wheelchair full time and communicates via an eye-controlled computer.

He has been invited by his school, along with Disability Ski UK, to attend a skiing trip to Andorra in March next year. He is very excited at the prospect of being able to experience the exhilaration and speed that only skiing can provide. I try very hard not to let his disability get in the way of him experiencing things the rest of us take for granted and it is very important to me that he can access the ski trip. The fresh mountain air, the scenery and the freedom it will bring to him will be a lifelong memory he will treasure, and will serve to boost his self-esteem and fire up his adrenaline and confidence ready for his GCSE’s in May.

Needless to say, the cost of getting Will onto the slopes is prohibitively expensive. Not only does he need a carer 24/7, he also needs a specially trained DSUK ski instructor, and has to hire a specially adapted sit-ski, all of which come with a hefty price tag of well over £1,500. I won't be going myself, these are purely Will's costs.
