Camps International visited my school with the opportunity to go on a 4 week expedition to Cambodia. As soon as I saw the videos and pictures that were taken on previous expeditions, I was hooked, I heard the very worrying statistics and I knew I wanted to help these people. In Cambodia, there are 14.8 million people and 33% of them don't have access to clean drinking water, something we all take for granted. It's a necessity. Furthermore 67% don't have access to sanitation. Something we all need and shouldn't be a challenge for anyone to be clean, however the harsh truth is they do. This leaves them open to disease, infection and possible death, these two factors alone, causes statistics such as 51 deaths/1000 live births which are subject to infant mortality.

In the 20th Century there was a mass genocide in Cambodia, meaning they have a very young population which can be troublesome for families, however the youngsters in Cambodia are very eager to help. And it's been seen in previous expeditions that they are so willing and happy to help. The children, as soon as they finish school, that camps international have built, they run to the workers and do whatever they can.

What I'll be doing environmental activities:

Wildlife monitoring Tree planting Plastering, painting and decorating buildings Seed collection and harvesting

I'll also be doing School Classroom and Accommodation Building including: Digging classroom foundations Laying bricks Plastering, painting and decorating buildings Making classroom furniture Landscaping

What I'm planning to do:

I know the money isn't going to come easy, so me and my other people that are going are planning some events and other fitness challenges that may help with raising some of the funds. However without generosity, there is no way I'll make it to Cambodia to help these people. I promise to give this journey (not only in Cambodia) but the fundraising before hand, 100% of not only my effort but my passion.

What I'm asking for:

I'm asking for you to help me so I can help the poor Cambodian families, by building houses, schools, wells, and do anything that can help with they way of life of the Cambodians. I'd love to be a cog in a massive machine that changes their life forever. Remember, nothing is too little. Please donate whatever you can, It doesn't have to be money, I could be advise, or even just a share on social media. It genuinely all helps.

Who am I?

I'm a 17 year old Carlton Academy Sixth form student in year 12, studying Physics, Chemistry and Maths. Living a pretty normal life. Playing computer games and trying to get healthy (not the best combination I know). I would've just finished my A-Levels and would be an amazing start to an amazing year. Truly can't wait for this opportunity, to help all these people. People less privileged than you and I.
