    Story

I am desperately trying to help a nice litte fella named 'Bruno'. I am at my wits end with the seeming lack of helping hands, simple helping hands, when it comes to sick animals. If I could take him, I would, but doing that would endanger the 6 pets I already have. I don't ask for help often, but this isn't for me-it's for Bruno. I am not having this cat killed just because finding someone who meets his needs might be a bit 'difficult'.

'Bruno san' as he has become known, is a feral cat that has been in our street and very often in our garden for a few years now. He's never a bother and we give him food if and when we see him on any given day. He's very temperamental and quite the big 'bruiser'! He's not to be messed with-by human or other cats. Sadly however, these last few days he has been turning up in a very sorry state and we've even found him sitting at our back door-he was no longer leaving our garden. His eyes were full of mucus and he was drooling heavily-his health is clearly in danger. Last night we took a chance and got a hold of him (he was very friendly, which may not be a good sign). We got him into a cat box and called the RSPCA-long story short we didn't get much help as it was a Sunday...

We can't look after him ourselves as he will be a health risk (and a fight risk if he becomes violent again) to our house pets, but thankfully we can house him at our Dad's house. The problem, as is usual-money. To be frank, if enough money can't be guaranteed to cover long term care, being put down by a vet or indeed an organisation like RSPCA is a very real probability. It's sad, but if an animal's care is going to be seen as too inconvenient then death's door is a likely place to leave him.

This is frustrating as my family simply cannot physically look after a cat as ill as Bruno appears to be-he has ulcers in his mouth and the Vet's educated opinion points to possible kidney troubles. This will cost a lot of money to weed through, as we indeed strongly wish to investigate if indeed Bruno still has a life ahead of him. Euthanasia is NOT an option unless we know his condition is fatal. We thought our Dad would be able to adopt him if his health is not too severe and treatment wouldn't be too long or costly. That now doesn't seem to be the case, as his low health is beginning to cause 'inconveniences'. If you can empathise-that is the situation I am in, my own father can't find the time to be selfless for more than 5 minutes. Over the last 2 days, Bruno has become brighter and much friendlier being in a warm home. He's fussy and rolls over for attention...he's easily a house cat. But it's getting difficult to find one. As mentioned, we here shoulder the cost and care of many pets (most rescued from being strays) already, and trying to care for Bruno's case is going to stress us too thin. We essentially have a cat with nowhere to go.

So, I want to ask for help; If I can raise a decent sum that can be put %100 percent towards Bruno's care, we have a chance of investigating exactly what ails him, and fighting for a chance to bring his life back to health, rather than writing it off before even knowing if it is necessary. At the moment he is at a crossroads-can he be nursed back to health and adopted by our Dad (looking less likely), can he be trusted to be handed over to RSPCA or CPL for more involved treatment and re-homing to a better equipped environment, or is he suffering a fatal illness that cannot be cured? Right now, we don't know, but dedicated money in our pockets will help us on our way to finding out!

I detest and actively fight against the idea that an animal is put to it's death simply because we don't know what else to do with it. If you can help with a donation in anyway, then it will be used to avoid that fate as much as possible, by paying for blood and other tests, and giving him higher quality treatments.

    Thanks!

Sadly Bruno has been put to sleep earlier today. Everyone will convince you it was the best thing to do, but I'm not so sure. I tried. I really did. Thanks to all who donated. I didn't keep the receipt for his antibiotic costs on Monday, but it was £56. Here is the receipt from today, which was a blood test, totaling £88. This is just to show your good money is being used responsibly. Once justgiving has taken their fees I don't think there will be any leftover. Thanks again to those who helped.

I've had cats all my life, and me and my family have taken in, fed and even got veterinary help for strays in both the neighborhoods I have lived in since I was born.
