Mia is a beautiful 8 year old SharPei who needs urgent surgery to save her eyesight.

Through this justgiving page I hope to raise funds for the specialist surgery Mia so desperately needs to save her sight. As her dog walker I've grown a special bond with Mia over the years. She's a very active, fit & healthy Shar Pei with the sweetest nature. To loose her sight so suddenly would be devastating.

The backgound: Mia was recently treated by her local vets for a small scratch to her eye. She was prescribed Metacam & eyedrops but the treatment didn't appear to help and the eye started to cloud over. Worried about the changes, Mia's owner returned to her vets for advice and she was referred to an eye specialist for tests.

Yesterday Mia was diagnosed glaucoma of both eyes. A serious underlying condition that had gone undetected by her vet. Glaucoma is an emergency. Without surgery to reduce the high pressure of fluid behind the eyes, Mia will permanently go blind.

The diagnosis: Mia's left eye is beyond saving as sugery cannot correct the damage behind the eye. Sadly her left eye will need to be removed. Mia's right eye requires urgent surgery to save it, the vet estimated a window of just three weeks, if left any longer her right eye will also need to be removed. The procedure involves inserting a shunt behind the eye to drain off the build up of fluid relieving the pressure.

Mia's family are heartbroken. The total cost of surgery is £2300 and Mia is not covered by pet insurance. With such a small window of time to save her right eye, I ask that no matter how small, any donation is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your support.
