The present owner of the beautiful Cabinet at Reed has turned it into a house without first applying for the correct permissions. He subsequently applied for retrospective change of use and modifications to a grade II listed building.

The Save The Cabinet Action Group has been set up to fight to not only ensure that the permissions are refused but also to have the building restored as it was to reopen as a pub.

The decision on 20 July to refuse planning permission for change of use of The Cabinet to a house was an important victory. But nobody should be under any illusions — the fight to save and reopen our village pub has a long way to go. The two retrospective listed buildings applications have not yet been determined and, what’s more, an appeal by the developer on change of use is expected. Such an appeal will most probably take the form of a hearing - because the case is complex, the Action Group needs to retain professional advice and representation. This will entail considerable expense, and we are therefore relaunching the Save the Cabinet Fighting Fund.
