Story
Some of you will be aware that my brother, Stephen, was diagnosed with Glioblastoma grade 4** (terminal brain cancer) in September ‘17. My husband and I went to visit him in Cadiz Hospital, Spain, in September, where he had an operation to remove as much of the tumour as possible. Sadly, there is nothing they can now do except to give him chemotherapy and radiation treatment to try and prolong his life.
Stephen moved to Spain as a 20 year old and for 23 years has worked for Morrisons Supermarket in two separate stints. He now lives in Duquesa, Costa Del Sol, Spain and travels across the border every day to go to work (or more accurately - that is what he used to do). I would love to bring Stephen back to England and care for him at our home, however Stephen (now 50) wants to stay in Spain for his remaining time as that is where he has most of his friends, that he has grown up with, around him.
To make matters worse he is struggling financially. Work have now decided he is no longer entitled to sick pay and he is unable to physically work. As he is living in Spain and works in Gibraltar (UK) the rules governing Statutory Sick Pay is complex and is extremely political. As I want to help my brother the only way I can is financially, hence a little peace of mind. So this is an invitation to my friends and family to help me help my Brother.
**Glioblastoma (grade 4) The average survival time is 12-18 months - only 20% of glioblastoma patients survive more than one year, and only 3% of patients survive more than three years – (source: thebraintumourcharity.org).
