Story
My mum is 52 years old. When i was very young she was a powerhouse of activity. She rode motorbikes, she bicycled everywhere after she had me and my brother, she worked full time and still had time to play with us. She put herself through university as a single mother with two young children, and succeeded. Then the disability hit. When i was 8 years old my mum got a virus, it wiped out her immune system and left her vulnerable to just about anything a small child can bring home from school. by the end of that year she was unable to get to the front gate. Things got a little better after a few years with me as her carer, she was able to regain her strength enough to even go out and see friends! life was happy for a while. and then, in november of 2016, we found a lump behind her knee. we went to the doctors, who sent us to the hospital, who sent us to another hospital, who wanted multiple scans, and all the while this lump was getting bigger and bigger. have you ever seen a sweet pear? they are twice the size of the standard pear. and the lump was the equivalent of 3 sweet pears. (i had taken her some for by her bedside in hospital, the surgeon came to speak to her and said... yes, about 3 of these) We later found out that this Sarcoma was a nasty one. it had rapidly grown and metastasized (spread to other parts of her body), namely, her lungs. these tumors are too close to her heart and arteries to operate on and so the diagnosis turned terminal. we dont know how long she has left, but i want her to spend it at home, with me and her animals, in an adapted house close to my brother and her grandchildren. the hospital will not let her come home for more than a visit until we are no longer in a house with stairs that she cant climb. i am asking for this help because i dont know where else to turn. we need your help to give her the best quality of life we can. I have changed this page to something more manageable as i don't even know if she will be able to come home.

7 years agoJust been to visit her in hospital with my brother, there are now two clots in her lungs. The doctors are putting her on a new medication to try and shrink them enough to hopefully metabolise them. Fingers crossed it works!

All my best Mel! I know it's not a lot but it's the best I could do. Christies is such a great hospital and my grandad went there in the past and he's all better now! Good luck with her treatment xx
