In July next year I will be coming to the end of my 2nd year training to be a nurse. This is the time we get to choose an elective placement. Myself and some fellow students have decided to go to Kandy in Sri Lanka where the healthcare system isn't as good as here in the UK, we will be working inside the hospital and local clinics experiencing how they manage healthcare without the funding we have, where even the simplest of healthcare isn't avaliable. I will be seeing some rare diseases and some extremely advanced cases that haven't been able to be treated.

Whilst out on Sri Lanka I will spend a week in a remote village learning Ayurveda (the ancient art of tree medicine) and how it is used to treat aliments and create medicines.

I feel this is an ideal opportunity for me to develop myself professional and personally and hope to bring back a whole new insight to medicine that only a small number of people get to experience.

Whilst out in Sri Lanka I intend to write a blog of my time and experiences so people can come on the journey with me ☺
