    Story

She’s En Scene is a women's community cinema screening films either directed or written by women to encourage creation within communities. The objective of the cinema is to promote discussion, collaboration, empowerment and creation within primarily women-only spaces. She’s En Scene also aims to provide workshops for women & young girls wanting to get into filmmaking. Our long term aim is to have a She's En Scene space with cinema, collective and workshops weekly.

We're currently struggling to fund the project solely on ticket sales and we need your support. Anything you donate will go straight into funding screenings, safe space discussions and events.

One evening when I was feeling quite isolated I remember thinking "Why are there no spaces for women to come together, connect, watch films and create?" and so I started She's En Scene. Social isolation is a huge issue that I've personally experienced. The mental health effects when there aren't spaces to meet and feel included are serious and SES is about creating that space for women.

    So please support us!

    THE FACTS

There are huge gender inequalities within the television and the film industry including the wage gap and role stereotyping, where women are more likely to be pushed towards administrative & producing roles than directorial or creative. In 2017, women only made up 18 percent of all directors, writers, producers, executive producers, editors, and cinematographers working on the top 250 domestic grossing films. So that’s worldwide, but the percentage of UK films directed exclusively by women has barely changed in 10 years. The percentage has risen from 11.3% in 2005 to 11.9% in 2014. That’s absolutely shocking. The barriers into and staying in the industry are clear, poverty and lack of childcare are among the obvious. BAME women and lack of representation of diverse voices is something we’re truly missing out and directly affects the way we women generally. This is what She’s En Scene is trying to address on the wider scale, more representation from the grassroots up.
