Story

In Autumn 2017, we started fundraising for the Simon's Place project, in connection with Help Bristol's Homeless. As a reminder, we were aiming to raise enough money to buy a shipping container, which could then be converted into a home for someone in need, in memory of our close friend Simon Mayhew. This was a cause particularly close to his heart. The original Just Giving page can be seen here.

This initial fundraising effort was a massive success, resulting in a total of £3,375.75 (a combination of the Just Giving amount, cash donations at the funeral and other sources). As a result of your generosity, we have been able to buy and insulate the container, as well as source external doors and windows.

Now we have the basics covered, we are asking if you would be kind enough to help us finish what we started. Homelessness in Bristol is rising rapidly, making this project (and the work done by Help Bristol's Homeless generally) even more significant.

We are trying as far as possible to source building materials and furnishings by seeking donations from local and national businesses. Simon's more technical friends have also volunteered their time and will be taking care of the labour. We anticipate, however, being unable to complete the work without further funds. We have a set a new target of £5,000 but would be grateful for any assistance to help make this a reality.

If you think you may be able to help in some other way, or would like to see how the project is progressing, please contact us via the Simon's Place website.
