MIKE GODFREY COMMUNITY SPORTS:

Mike Godfrey Community Sports is the community partner of SK Football Coaching. The primary aim is to develop a new not-for-profit community football and sports facility - something our area desperately needs.

Our fundraising endeavours began in 2016 with a football tournament and community fun day in memory of Mike, with further events in 2017 and 2019. These events were primarily for the community and were well supported. We were able to donate to the British Heart Foundation and to contribute towards provision of defibrillators for the local community.

Mike Godfrey was a family man with 4 children - one being Joe, SKFC's Manager - who all played (or still play) junior football in Stockport. Mike died suddenly in 2014 following cardiac arrest while playing football. He was also a season ticket holder at Manchester City with his family including his elderly father. Football was his passion.

MGCS’s mission is to deliver a community facility which will provide a venue for junior football league games (central venue), junior football club matches in all formats, junior football club summer training, school events, charity events and club presentation days (for example). There will also be a well-equipped clubhouse - available for community use, meetings and functions - as well as changing rooms. The facility will be an inclusive space – including the provision of other sports and activities for those with disabilities. The centre will be run not for profit and any surplus revenue generated will reinvested into the facility and/or community sports.
