    Story

    SKYDIVE FOR DOMINICA

Hurricane Maria devastated the Island of Dominica during the evening of Tuesday 19th September/early hours of Wednesday 20th September. Dominica was still recovering from Tropical Storm Erika which left many homeless, deceased and trying to rebuild their lives. Hurricane Maria has, not only delayed the continued efforts but has wreaked havoc and destruction to the island and people. Indeed, Hurricane Maria has been described as ‘Malevolent, Menacing Maria’. In its wake, families and friends both in Dominica and the Diaspora are frantically trying to locate their loved ones. I, as I am sure many of you, have received many messages from Dominica pleading for assistance – we cannot imagine the trauma and desperation that is being experienced.

Many efforts are being made both here, in the UK, and from the International Diaspora to collect and ship donations both material and financial through a variety of fundraising initiatives. These efforts must continue, Dominica must not be forgotten.

Upon hearing of my country’s plight a friend immediately, without a second thought, offered to fundraise by SkyDiving for Dominica©. Stuart Thorburn has never undertaken this activity before; this will be a first for him. Two other friends have since offered to do the same, on additional dates.

Why not join them and help raise more funds for Dominica!!

YOUR SPONSORSHIP WILL BE VITAL TO MAKING THIS EVENT A SUCCESS WHILST RAISING MUCH NEEDED CRITICAL FUNDS FOR BOTH THE IMMEDIATE NEEDS AND LONG TERM RESTORATION OF ‘THE NATURE ISLAND’, DOMINICA.

Dominica is the country of my origins. Both parents were born and raised in Pointe Michel. My first visit was in 1987 and I instantly fell in love with the island - I found where I belonged. Family and friends moved to Dominica and are now struggling to survive the devastation.
