    FALLING FOR DENEHOLME!!

Hi! Thanks for taking a look at our just giving page! Let us tell you a little about us and our cause. We are five cousins who are (crazily) going to jump from a plane at 15,000ft for a project very close to our hearts.

Our mum/aunt, Linda Charlton, and her merry band of workers have run a much loved and very well known business, Thornley Leazes Care Home, in Allendale, rural Northumberland for over 20 years. Thornley Leazes provides care to both adults with learning disabilities and our older generation, 24 hours a day and strive to provide not just care but a secure home for those who live there.

Linda took on a new challenge last year to renovate and repurpose another historic building in Allendale with the plan of moving Thornley Leazes to this new building. Deneholme will provide Lindas residents with so many more opportunities to be part of the community, provide a more accessible and spacious house and surrounding gardens with the added bonus of more support to be offered to the wider community through day care services. The day care center is already up and running and was a priority for Linda to ensure vulnerable and lonely individuals in need of a social setting with some fun, laughter and activities is accessible for all. Since covid our elderly residents have been the most isolated and are in need of a social setting that they can meet, eat and enjoy conversation together again. Linda has invested significant amounts of money already into the project including making additional rooms, refiguring the layout, putting in disabled access toilets and accesses.

One of the big benefits of Deneholme is there is a lift which allows access to all, throughout all floors, however this lift had recently stopped working and this had a big repercussions not just on the residents who hope they can move in next year but also the risk that other parts of the project may not be completed due to the cost of replacing this.

We have decided we would like to do our bit to try and support Deneholme, support our mum/aunt and create the best possible home for our residents of Allendale. Thanks for reading and wish us luck with anything you can spare!
