Story
In 2011 Skylah's Charity Challenge raised R10,000 for St Mary's Childrens Home in Johannesburg, South Africa, far exceeding her original target of R5,000.00 and all through her love and passion for Highland Dancing.
In the past few years Skylah has had to experience the loss of loved ones due to cancer and has seen the effects of friends and family who battle it every day. After losing her Grandfather in 2013 to oesophageal cancer, Skylah knows first-hand the heartache this disease brings to people who are battling it and the families that support them.
Skylah was saddened to hear the news of two ladies that she knows who are now battling cancer for the second time. So it’s the perfect time for Skylah to give back again and do what she does best – fight for them and have a fling for cancer!
Susan Hartley was a highland dancer and later became a highland dancing teacher. Skylah had the opportunity to work with Susan in 2011 when she was chosen to represent Gauteng at the inter-provincials. Susan is currently undergoing aggressive chemo treatment and has already had invasive surgery.
Linette du Preez has known Skylah since she was 8 months old. She has celebrated birthdays, Christmas parties with Linette and her family. A few months ago we lost an amazing man, Oupa Chris, who is Linettes father, to cancer. She restarts her chemo this week.
So, how does this all work… well exactly like the last time.
Skylah does all the hard work and you just sponsor a dance or dances (if you feeling generous).
The donations will work as follows:
UK Sponsorships
1st place = £5
2nd place = £2
3rd - 6th = £1
SA Sponsorships
1st place = R20
2nd place = R10
3rd place = R5
So if she doesn’t place, she doesn’t earn the money! You can sponsor 1 dance or all her dances for a competition. Skylah has also committed that if she wins any prize money she will donate it to the cause as well.
All funds raised will be shared between the two ladies to cover expenses they may have whi
