Story
From 8pm on Friday 17th March until 8am on Saturday 18th March, I will be taking part in a 'sleep-out' on the grounds of my University to raise awareness of the awful problem of homelessness in the Canterbury area. This involves a group of 50 members from our Canterbury Homeless Outreach Society and myself, sleeping with sleeping bags and blankets on the concrete area outside our Kent Union building.
Homelessness is a national problem. However, in Canterbury alone, homelessness has nearly doubled in the past 5 years. The number of young people sleeping on the streets has tripled. Being part of Canterbury Homeless Outreach Society here at the University of Kent has opened my eyes to the devastating issue of homelessness. I have seen, first-hand on outreaches, how horrendous some of the conditions in which rough sleepers are living in.
Please support me in raising money for this cause. The money that you will donate will go towards three incredible charities in Canterbury who focus on helping the homeless. These are: Porchlight, Catching Lives and Canterbury Homeless Advice Centre (CHAC). All three of these charities support the homeless in Canterbury and the Kent area. Some offer a day centre, resources (like sleeping bags), rehoming advice, shelters, immediate respite and advice regarding mental health, education and employment.
Thank you for reading and please consider supporting me :)
