Story
Hi, my name is Sophie and I am an Explorer Scout and Young Leader with my local Scout Group.
I am excited to be have been selected by GLMW Scouts to be a part of the UK contingent for the 24th World Scout Jamboree. I’m working towards raising £3,900 to attend the Jamboree in 2019 which will be held in North America.
Jointly hosted by the Boy Scouts of America, Scouts of Canada and the Scout Association of Mexico, the Jamboree will take place from the 22nd July to the 2nd August 2019 at the Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve in West Virginia, USA. This event only happens once every four years and you only get one opportunity to join as a participant!
I will be working with the members of Greenford and District Scouts to raise £3,900 each over the next 17 months. The fee will contribute to my attendance at the event but also contributes to Scouts from other less fortunate countries allowing them to attend, supporting the aim of the Jamboree ‘Unlock a New World’.
I am currently planning fundraising activities – carol singing, car-washing, bag packing, quiz nights, cake sales and looking for challenges to complete in 2018 – please keep checking back for updates and feel free to send me your ideas!
The World Scout Jamboree is a life-changing adventure that I am very lucky and proud to have been selected to take part in. I will have the opportunity to meet other young people (14-17 yrs.) from countries all across the world, experience their cultures first hand, share languages and life experience, and also, give something back to the community project that we will be helping in North America.
All donations gratefully received - thank you for your support (if you'd rather donate offline please do get in touch!).
If you would like to learn more about the event, check out the World Scout Jamboree page here or watch this video.
