    Story

I am a second-year Mental Health nursing student planning to travel to Pokhara, Nepal for my elective placement in July 2019. I will be travelling with work the world, a company who care for healthcare students travelling abroad.

All money raised will help fund my experience in Pokhara including accommodation, flights, travel, visa, vaccinations and my hospital placement. With your help, I will have the opportunity to work within a hospital setting and experience Adult, Paediatric and Mental Health nursing. It is common knowledge that families within Nepal provide bedside care for their loved ones, this allows me to be more clinically focused and gain experience in rehabilitations for illnesses like leprosy. Alongside this I will have the opportunity to spend time with students from around the world and work with seasoned specialists, exchanging and gaining skills and knowledge I wouldn’t be able to acquire at home.

The opportunity of working in a developing country is a fantastic opportunity to develop and share my skills within nursing whilst gaining valuable experiences working with diseases and advanced pathologies which are rare within the western world. I am excited to understand how healthcare is delivered in an under-resourced environment which I believe will contribute to my professional and personal development. I fully understand that I will not be able to change the lives of every person admitted to hospital but I am hoping that this placement will enable me to make someone smile and aid their recovery.

I thank you now for reading this post and I am most grateful for a donation of any size. I plan to keep fundraising up until 2 weeks before my flight, so that’s 6 months to go! Your kindness and generosity will not go unforgotten and I look forward to telling stories to patients on how I am able to get there.

    Many Thanks
    Sophie ! :D
