Some people just live to help others. I met Pacho & Monica in Columbia, in La Guajira. They very kindly invited me join them to visit two of the major tribes in the area. We stayed with the Wayu & Wiwa people, each for a few days and made professional recordings of their ancient music, probably for the first time. No agenda or commercial angle - just to to preserve a record, and to give them something they can keep and pass onto the future generations. This is a labour of love for Pacho & Monica and the team at FairTunes.

Their next project is much more ambitious. They are now helping to stage an entire festival for the numerous indigenous tribes of the Choco region! This means gathering, assembling and delivering a full sized sound system to the site (including a 9-hour stretch on foot!), teaching them to use and maintain it, and then DONATING the entire setup to the tribes to use for future events!

Festival Abauda Andagueda is a gathering of the Embera Katio indigenous communities of Choco, Colombia. The aim is to preserve the Embera Katio culture, which has been greatly impacted by the armed conflicts in Colombia, and to highlight and celebrate their ancestral practices so that new generations are able to experience these customs and traditions first-hand.
