24 hours. In a liferaft. On the River Tyne.

A group of cadets studying at South Shields Marine School, part of South Tyneside College will brave the elements and experience what every seafarer hopes they never have to do for real - spend 24 hours in a liferaft.

Only July 3 the students will climb into liferafts on the River Tyne at our Marine and Offshore Safety Training Facility, to experience first hand just what it would be like if they were cast adrift.

Students are hoping to raise at least £500 for two charities, South Shields Sea Cadets and the Dr. Winterbottom Charitable Fund, which supports supports students locally, nationally and internationally with issues like Health and Wellbeing; Business Start Up and Learning Hardship.

The fund also provides small grants to individual students who may need short term help to aid their education progression.
