Story
Alex has spasticity in his legs, he also has equinovarus deformity in his feet. Basically - his legs are tight and sore and his feet are bent. It was decided that he needed surgery to help this if he ever stands a chance of walking with a frame or independently. This operation was due to be repeated as Alex grew.
The operation happened. There were many complications. Alex had a difficult intubation and has a complicated airway, chronic issues with his lungs meant that he developed a tension pneumothorax (he blew a hole in his lung), he then had to have major surgery to repair his lung.Whilst in Intensive Care at Birmingham Children's Hospital the Orthopaedic surgeons were able to operate on Alex's feet but the complications came again: Alex suffered an anaphylactic reaction in surgery and soon after developed a heart complaint. He has also been on steroid replacement therapy during his admission. Alex was in Intensive Care for 25 days and in hospital in total for 31 days.
Needless to say, Alex's feet operation will not be repeated. It is imperative that we do everything we can to help Alex. The NHS Physiotherapists are great but they have large case loads.
Let's get Alex the very best treatment to give him the very best chance with the only shot we have. He deserves it.
Any extra funds will be used as the twins grow to help provide equipment and therapies as they are required for both Alex and Dylan
Thank you for all of your support

7 years agoThank you all so much! I am truly overwhelmed at the support shown. As we have done so well you may have noticed that I've put on the page that we will use any extra funds to pay for equipment and therapies as both boys grow. Private physiotherapy is expensive so I envisage all of the money donated so far to be used for Alex as was the initial plan!
