The primary aim of our project will be to engage with and empower disengaged and disadvantaged young people who are not in employment, education or training – in and through music. The project will build self-confidence and aspiration, identify existing skills and abilities, educate and train, help identify potential career paths, and develop music industry understanding and contacts. It will also build positive social interaction and networks between the young people, in a safe and vibrant cultural and community space. Being part of the creative process is a very positive experience and, in particular, music therapy has proven benefits for stress relief, anxiety and improved concentration levels – Seems random. Relevant? The young people with whom we aim to engage will learn musicianship, the art of songwriting, self-expression (whether it be songs about heartbreak or songs about political regimes versus the small guy –, stage craft and how to project an image, the importance of the right media and press coverage, and how best to present oneself. Being part of the creative process is a very positive experience and, in particular, music therapy has proven benefits for stress relief, anxiety and improved concentration levels. Please help these kids to have the opportunity of a future,because at the moment there is very little hope in the lives of the young people in communities like ours.
