Story
Back in September 2016, our HVAP Shift Engineer Steve Speakman was involved in a horrific Motorbike accident whilst travelling to work. The accident occurred during a regular routine trip to Media City UK on the M62/M602 Interchange at 06:30am. Following the accident Steve endured an 8 month stay in Manchester Royal Infirmary and as a result has suffered life changing injuries. Although Steve is now on the path to recovery his rehabilitation is going to take an immense amount of time, Steve is currently at home but is in a wheelchair.
To support Steve and aid his rehabilitation we have 2 ENGIE Engineers Alex Sutton from the Media City contract and Ian Rowson from the Peel Ports contract participating in a bike ride from Edinburgh to MediaCityUK - The riders are forming part of the ENGIE Ride 2017 the other members of the bike ride team will be supporting ENGIE Chosen Charities - MIND, Princes Trust and Macmillan Cancer Support.
The ride will cover some 220 miles in 3 days commencing on Tuesday 11th July 2017 – this will be a tough 3 days of cycling with some steep climbs.
To maximise our fundraising and support our cause the team at Media City UK along with Peel Media and the ITV Team will be undertaking the same distance of the final leg (Kendal to Media City Manchester – 79 miles) on a stationary spin bike on the Media City Public Realm on Thursday 13th July 2017. Everyone is welcome to come along and provide support or even take part.
To make a difference and provide our support lets join together and help Steve on the long road to recovery, any donations would be greatly welcomed.

7 years agoThe riders rode into Media city yesterday afternoon having completed a total of 233 miles over the course of 3 days. A tremendous achievement from them all and a well deserved cold pint was had. Peel Media staff, engineers and managers also completed at total of 352.5 miles on the static bikes throughout the day on the public realm. Each person did a minimum of 16 miles, some completed several more. There were some red faces whilst others took it in their stride. Thank you for all who have supported us and we have reached 99% of our target!
