    Story

The problem with our broken industrial food system began in the 1950's, when chemical corporations began developing and modifying genes to become more resiliant to pesticides. Chemical fertilizers and herbicides were developed to work in conjunction with GMO's so that the crop would not die, but the pests would. But what also happened is that the soil microorganisms were also killed, the soil became less and less fertile. As farmers began to rely more and more on chemicals, the soil became less productive. This practice continues to this day, in a practice that has become critically widespread - which has now begun to affect our gut health, our DNA and our mental health also. Soil nutrients have never been in a worse state. We need to address this most urgent problem now.
